Erotic voice acting is more than breathy whispers or seductive tones, it's storytelling! The characters you portray are the heartbeat of the experience. Whether you’re a dominant vampire, a shy lover, or a mischievous tease, your audience is drawn in by your authenticity, emotional connection, and believability. In this chapter, we’ll discuss how to build strong characters, practice acting out different situations and create immersive performances that resonate with your listeners This chapter offers practice tools, like character journaling, exploring archetypes, populat themes/tags in the erotic audio space and recording sessions for self-review - to help you deepen your acting skills. Ultimately, emotional connection and character commitment are what make erotic audio engaging and memorable
Building Believable Erotic Personas
Every voice you perform should feel like a real person, not a one-dimensional fantasy. Even in short audio clips, your listener should feel like they’re connecting with someone who has personality, desire, and depth. When voicing a script or improving a scenario, you want to speak to the listener as if they’re present. The easiest way to do this is to imagine someone is in the room with you. This person could be a romantic partner, a friend or even a stranger depending on the context of the story you are voicing. Imagining someone in the room with you will help your performance feel more natural. If it helps, go a step further and pull up a photo of the person and put it infront of you. Speak to the microphone like its a person and react as if you’re hearing the other person respond to you - Use pacing to mimic natural conversational rhythm
Here are some things to consider when improving or performing a script;
Your Character Profile
If you are performing a script read it in advance to develop a character profile. If you are doing improv, asking these questions before starting can help:
Who is this character? Age, background, gender identity, experience level, occupation? What do they want? What’s their motivation or fantasy? What’s their tone and style? Are they seductive and slow, playful and teasing, cold and commanding? How do they feel about what’s happening? Excited? Nervous? In control? Vulnerable? Some of these details may never be spoken aloud but they will help inspire every breath and inflection Its good to establish this character profile for scripts too, but you will need to read the script first to understand the type of character you are performing in the recording To take your character to the next level: Before you start recording - do a short improv monologue while in character. This will help deepen your understanding of their voice and personality
Emotional Connection in Erotic Acting
Just like traditional acting, erotic performances rely on emotional truth. When you feel what your character feels; like desire, anticipation, surrender, tension - it transfers into your voice.
I'm a big hand talker. There's been many times I've had to re-record a line because I accidentally whacked the microphone with my hand when performing an emotionally charged line. Id rather have to do a retake on a line or two than have to force myself to sit perfectly still while recording something that requires emotion out of me.
It may sound silly but you can HEAR a smile on someones face when they are talking. You can usually HEAR when someone is crying or angry. You want to be able convey all the feelings through your voice, but its important not to "over act". But if you need to raise your arms in the air when your excited to have that emotion come through your voice... do it. The listener will HEAR it through your performance
Use Your Imagination
You don’t need to have lived every scenario you perform. Sure its great to have real life experience, but this is acting baby! jazz hands
Use the actor’s tool of emotional recall or sensory imagination!! Close your eyes and picture the scene. Where are you? What does your partner look like? What are you feeling physically and emotionally? If this is a situation you've never been in before, think of a memory that has similar details or the same feeling as the situation your character is in
Perform the Emotion, Not the Sound
I've said it before and I'll say it again... Do not mimic what you think “sexy” sounds like. Focus on the emotion that is driving the moment; longing, control, release - let your feelings shape your performance
If you feel like your voice sounds disconnected or forced, it probably means you're prioritizing the sound of seduction over the feeling behind it
Playing with Power: Dominant and Submissive Roles
Erotic content often involves power dynamics and navigating these roles requires nuance
Dominant Characters
These personas speak with confidence, control, and intention. They often use measured pacing, pauses, and commanding tones. Dominant characters are confident, slow and deliberate
Voice Tips: Lower pitch, steady rhythm, direct phrasing
Acting Tips: Imagine you’re completely in control of the moment, your partner, and yourself
Example: “You’ll do exactly as I say. Understand, Pet?”
Submissive Characters
These roles usually show vulnerability, eagerness, or nervous anticipation. Your voice might rise in pitch, speak quicker, or carry hesitance or breathlessness. Submissive characters are shy, unsure and emotionally charged
Voice Tips: Softer volume, light tremble or breath, more reactive delivery
Acting Tips: Tune into feelings of surrender, desire to please, or emotional intensity
Example: “Yes... I- um... I-I’ll do anything you want...”
Power dynamics aren’t caricatures. A dominant voice doesn’t have to be cruel and a submissive character isn’t always weak. Real people and erotic characters have more depth than that
Adapting to Different Styles and Genres
Erotic voice work can range from light romantic intimacy to dark fantasy roleplay. Each setting requires different acting choices
Some of the genres and tones you might encounter:
Soft romance: Typically Boyfriend Experience or Girlfriend Experience; Gentle, affectionate, emotionally warm Kinky/Dark fantasy: Dom/Sub, Edgy, Intense, Often with layered consent dynamics
Playful or teasing: Bimbo Content, Brats, Energetic, Flirty, Carefree
Popular Tags In The Erotic Audio Space:
Based on data from major erotic audio platforms like GoneWildAudio on Reddit, Soundgasm as of late 2025 these are some of the most frequently used and searched tags in the erotic audio space. These are ranked roughly by popularity/usage frequency: [F4M] – Female for Male (the single most common performer/listener pairing) [M4F] – Male for Female [ASMR] – Often combined with erotic content [Rape] – Non-con/dub-con fantasy (very heavily used, despite controversy. Be careful if you decide to create this type of content, a lot of platforms do not allow it and it could potentially hurt your brand. Just something to consider) [Gentle FDom] & [FDom] – Gentle femdom & General femdom [MDom] – Male domination [BFE] & [GFE] – Boyfriend Experience & Girlfriend Experience
[GFE] – Girlfriend Experience [Friends to Lovers]
[Oral] / [Blowjob] [Cunnilingus] [Creampie] [Impregnation] / [Breeding] [Submissive Speaker] / [Sub Speaker] [Mommy Domme] / [Mommy] (controversial as well, most platforms do not want people sharing "incest" content, which they usually consider any "Mommy" or "Daddy" roleplay even if it isn't meant that way. You will want to always review platform TOS and use tags appropriately) [Daddy] / [DDLG] (Again, controversial but still common despite Reddit crackdowns) [Degradation] / [Praise]
[JOI] – Jerk Off Instructions (especially F4M JOI)
[Anal] [Edging] [Cheating] / [Netorare]
[Strangers to Lovers]
[Size Difference] / [Gentle Giant]
[Monsterfucking] / [Monster] / [Werewolf] / [Tentacles] (rapidly rising in 2024–2025)
[Aftercare]
These tags and their popularity change a bit year to year, but the core list above has been remarkably stable in 2024–2025, with monster and size-difference themes being the biggest climbers recently

Record yourself and Reflect
You don't always have to record your practice sessions. You can practice these characters anytime in your head, while your doing the dishes or walking the dog. From time to time, you should record your practice sessions and reflect on them. Sometimes those recordings will turn out amazing and you'll want to share them (which is great!) Other times they wont turn out so good, and if you don't feel like sharing something; listen to your heart and send it to the delete folder. Its okay! You can try again. You'll learn from it and do better next time. There are lots of audios i've recorded as practice to learn from.
When you listen back to your recordings: Does it sound real? Do you believe the character you are trying to convey?
If you don't like improv you can write your own scripts or find scripts online that are free to use but you should still use improv to practice your character building. I'll discuss online resources for finding free scripts to use and writing your own scripts, in another chapter
In Conclusion...
Acting is what brings erotic voice content to life. It’s what separates flat performances from compelling, engaging experiences. The more you commit to your character’s mindset, emotions, and voice, the more your audience will feel like they're right there with you
Erotic voice acting is ultimately about connection; to the character, to the scene, and most of all, to the listener. When done thoughtfully, it’s not just sexy - it’s a powerful experience for the listener that will stick in their mind and keep them coming back for more
