Starting as an erotic voice actor can feel overwhelming. There's the technical side (recording, editing), the creative side (scripts, characters), and the business side (platforms, pricing, fans, marketing). But it doesn't all have to happen at once. This chapter breaks down a realistic growth path, stage by stage, to help you start smart, grow sustainably, and eventually scale your brand across multiple platforms
📅 Stage 1 — Hone Your Craft & Find Your Flow (Privately)
🔍 Goal: Practice, experiment, and get comfortable with the process before you commit
If you are brand new to creating Erotic Audio Content; At this stage, your focus should be on learning by doing. Forget perfection - this is about repetition, experimentation, and figuring out what kind of content you love (and don’t love) to voice!
If you've voiced this kind of content before but are looking for a rebranding strategy, this could work for you too! I don't recommend rebranding, in a perfect world you make your brand and stick with it for your entire career - but things change, people change. This is why its important not to lock yourself into a brand name that is one niche specific like "Katy'sFeets" but something slightly broader like "WorshippingKaty". Constantly changing your brand will confuse your audience when they go searching for you, and the whole goal is to keep them coming back. We dont want to make them go digging to find you.
Some creators will make multiple accounts for multiple niche brands but I find that to be a lot of work and sometimes confusing. This is just a reminder that everyones stragety will be slightly different, and this is just how I've found success in the space
Focus on:
- Setting up your basic recording space - mic, software, quiet environment. (See Chapter 2)
- Testing different styles: improv vs. script, GFE, JOI, dom/sub dynamics etc. (See Chapter 3 on Finding Your Voice)
- Finding scripts! You Can:
- Try write your own or improv
- Use free scripts (r/ASMRScriptHaven)
- Connect with scriptwriters open to collabs
- Create a simple workflow for settling on your script or topic for your improv:
Get Your Script (or improv theme) > Warm Up to Record > Edit > Eventually Post (but don't post anything yet! At this stage you will still be trying to find your personal “brand” and getting familiar with creating audio content and the steps involved. Consider this your workplace training stage)
-Figure out and get settled into your other routines. How many pieces of content can you comfortably make a week? What days/times are best for recording? When is a good time to edit?
-Pracice your editing workflow. Another thing to consider at this stage is making your own SFX or using free ones you find online under the Creative Commons 0
You Want To Achieve These Milestones Before Moving On:
✅ 10 to 15 practice audios that you do not release (yet) There may be some in this pile you never release. You are in the experimental phase, learning about the niches you want to focus on and finding your groove - You can do some Acting and Character development to test out different archetypes in Chapter 4
✅ Get comfortable with your writing, recording and editing workflow.
✅ Really Identify a few of your preferred kinks or tones that you will want to focus on and start thinking of how you will brand yourself (See Chapter 5 on Branding)
📅 Stage 2 — Solidify Your Brand, Make Your Website and Begin Publishing FREE Content
🔍 Goal: Start building your brand, your website, and come up with your release schedule. You will soon start releasing free content publicly and privately recording audios you plan to sell in Stage 3
You’ve practiced and created a handful of test audios. Now it’s time to establish yourself as a serious creator. That means picking a direction, setting up your home base website and making it easy for people to find, follow, and (eventually) pay you for your work! This is the stage where you lay the foundation for future monetization and long-term growth
Focus on: - Defining Your Voice & Niche
You don’t have to be locked in to one thing forever but for now, start focusing your energy on what feels authentic. Review your practice audios and decide on 5 that will be eventually released for free that fit into your brand strategy. Start narrowing your content into a consistent vibe so your audience will know what to expect from you. Try to mainly focus on making content that falls within the niche you select. These first 5 audios will get shared on your audio hosting site (I choose to use Soundgasm) and eventually on to your website and other platforms to help you market yourself
- Building Your Basic Website (Review Chapter 6 for more details)
Remember all that work you did to try to figure out your stage name and brand details? This is where that comes in handy… You’ll use your stage name as your username and website domain. Your website doesn’t have to be fancy. You just need a central place to send your audience where they can find all your links, content, and offering. Make sure you use the same “stage name” as your username across platforms. You want it to be the same so the audience can easily find you across the web. You dont want to use names with different characters or numbers, keep it consistent
-Choose your Platforms and Start Your Release Schedule
This is your first official publishing phase. Treat it like your soft launch. You’re testing what works, but you’re also showing up like a pro. Choose one day a week to share your free content (or every other week, or once a month - whatever you decide is best for your personal schedule).
You'll be posting the audios to Soundgasm, Linking to it from your website master list and for marketing purposes, posting it on another platform of your choice (you should start with one and when you feel you are able to take on more, add more platforms)
I would recommend getting verified on r/GoneWildAudio and posting your free audios there to start. The community usually gives lots of feedback for newbies, just be cautious of trolls. While you're at it, you may as well create your own subreddit so you can link back to it in every audio post you share on GWA, so you can immediately start cultivating your own following on your own subreddit.
Don't forget, you should still be recording new content regularly - but now you will be recording some for free release, and recording some you will save and release as paid content in Stage 3. Once you put Stage 2 into motion, we keep the train moving. If you don't think you're ready for that; its ok. Go back and make more practice audios for you to release later. Creating a backlog of content is an easy way to get rid of the feeling of pressure to perform. You want to be able to keep up on your schedule which is why its important to be realistic about how much content you can release every month and not overwhelm yourself.
So Instead of just recording free audios (like the test audios in stage 1) you will now start to alternate between recording one free and then 1 that will turn into a paid release - you’re about to start monetizing your work, already!
Make sure each audio you release follows platform TOS and has:
- A consistent title format
- A clear, enticing description that ALWAYS includes a link back to your website (you can link back to your website in your Soundgasm post, but remember that some subreddits dont allow that, which is why you tag your own subreddit instead... breadcrumbs remember?!)
- Tags that accurately describe the kink, dynamic, and tone of the audio you are sharing
- If you need to use a thumbnail; make sure you use your personal branding and watermark (and your website link!!!! Always!!!) Keep it simple. Don’t get caught up in over-editing. The goal is consistency, not perfection.
Start small, choose one or two sites to release your free audio on that you can be consistent with. Soundgasm - upload privately and then share a link to the audio through your website masterlist, and use the same soundgasm link to post to reddit communities. ManyVids is another a good place to start because you can monetize content immiedatly (even the stuff you release for "free" will be priced at $1.99 - you can read more about this in Chapter 6 where I briefly talk about the platforms and their pros and cons)
Avoid:
- Getting stuck in “rebranding” loops too early. Choose your branding and stick to it.
- Spreading yourself across too many platforms at once. Some platforms offer scheduling tools so you can schedule content to be posted in the future which is a helpful feature you should take advantage of if you can
- Creating content with no clear niche or direction
- Burning out by trying to post daily
You Want To Achieve These Milestones Before Moving On From Stage 2:
✅ You’ve figured out your content recording schdule and are comfortable with the workflow
✅ You’ve established your tone, niche, or specialty and you've launched your basic website with masterlist (which will only have a few free audios on it at this point)
✅ You’ve decided what platforms you will be sharing content to (both the free and paid options) and you've started to publicly release free audios to at least one platform other than you website/soundgasm
✅ You’re sticking to a sustainable, realistic recording and release schedule
✅ You have at least 15 Free Audios released and 10 Paid Audios banked and ready to be shared. You are almost ready to start making money with your voice
This is the stage where you will slowly shift from having a hobby to being a creator with a brand, even if it’s just a small one From here, every post, every upload, and every interaction starts building your long-term reputation. In the Stage 3, you’ll start to earn money from your craft by releasing monetized content
📅 Stage 3 — Monetize Your Content: Launch Your Storefront & Keep Releasing Free + Paid Audios on Schedule!
🔍 Goal: Start earning money from your craft. Launch your storefront and build a rhythm of paid + free content
Now that you’ve built your brand, have a website, and released a good amount of free content (15 free audios) it’s time to start releasing the work you've been saving for monetization (10 audios that haven't been published yet). Now don't get too excited, you’re not going full-time overnight. This is about testing monetization strategies, learning what your audience will pay for, and building a storefront that grows with you over time
Focus on: -Creating a Paid Audio Workflow
In this stage you’ll officially begin alternating between 1 free audio release and 1 paid audio release. You'll have a bit of a backlog of content to rely on, so if you get sick and fall behind, you dont actually fall behind!
You need this sustainable rhythm to keep free traffic flowing in, while building up your storefront. Keep your process consistent. Both free and paid content should feel equally polished, but your paid content can be a little longer, kinkier, or more niche-specific - this is what your loyal fans will be most excited to pay for. You dont need to change your content schedule to ADD in an extra piece of paid content, you will simply alternate between posting them so your schedule stays the same and you can carry on making content
-Decide on Your Pricing Structure
The rate you decide on should reflect the uniqueness of custom NSFW work, audio length, usage rights, and the energy required to deliver an immersive experience
When selling individual audios in a storefront (like MV for example) I mostly follow this pricing structure; Up to 10mins long - $10.99 10 to 20mins - $14.99 20mins to 1hr - $19.99 1hr to 2hr - $24.99 2hr to 3hr - $34.99 THIS IS NOT A PRICE STRUCTURE FOR CUSTOM COMMISSIONS JUST INDIVIDUAL AUDIO SALES You can change these amounts as you see fit, but this is the pricing structure I have found works best for pay per view audio content. One day you'll offer custom commissions, discounted bundle deals or limited-time offers to incentivize repeat buyers but for now focus on building up a large library of audios for sale with a mixture of different kinks/themes/ideas! Your free releases are your marketing tool -Launch Your Paid Content on ManyVids
The reason I recommend ManyVids here is because they offer more frequent payouts than Clips4Sale. ManyVids pays out multiple times a month VS C4S which pays out once a month. But if you can manage to post your paid content on both MV and C4S to start, thats ideal. Don't forget to link your website on your profiles to create a seamless customer journey. You will add the paid content onto your website masterlist Since ManyVids no longer allows NSFW content posted for "free" anymore - you can upload your free content for the lowest amount $1.99 to still make it available to listen for free through your website. Some people will still go buy a copy of it to keep it for their personal collection if they really love it. -Continue releasing your paid and free content on your set schedule until you've released at least 25 items in your erotic audio storefront (and just as many - or more - for free!) Make your life easy and schedule stuff in advance if you can Avoid:
-Underpricing your content! Don’t sell your work for less than it’s worth - Ignoring your free audience. You still need that free content to grow your fan base and brand recognition - Posting every day. Its very important to pace yourself don't blow your entire load too early
You Want To Achieve These Milestones Before Moving On From Stage 3:
✅ You’ve launched your paid storefront (e.g ManyVids and/or Clips4Sale)
✅ Your masterlist is getting bigger and making content is starting to feel easier!
✅ You’ve built your content rhythm and started alternating between 1 free release and 1 paid release
✅ You’ve made sales and have been paid out a few times - Congratulations! You want to have a few payments cleared so that you can make sure you are able to get paid out and there's no issue between your bank and the platform you are using. We want it to be smooth sailing moving forward ✅ You’re balancing growth, income, and creativity ✅ You’ve published at least 25 audios for sale (and just as many free ones - if not more) ✅ You're starting to learn what sells and what doesnt
I am so proud of you!! At this point you’ll have officially started making money from your voice and it’s only going to scale from here. In Stage 4, you’ll expand to new platforms and repurpose your content to make work harder for you
📅 Stage 4 — Expand to Other Platforms & Repurpose Your Content
🔍 Goal: Maximize the value of each audio by distributing it across multiple platforms and income streams
Now that you’ve proven your concept and have a storefront running like a well oiled passive money making machine, it's time to scale
In Stage 4, you're going to repurpose, diversify, and expand so that each piece of content works harder for you. This doesn’t mean making more content it means getting more out of what you already make
Focus on:
-Distributing Your Already Made Content Across Multiple Platforms
Different platforms attract different buyers. Not everyone shops on ManyVids - some prefer Clips4Sale, Patreon, Fansly, etc. You want to have at least both ManyVids and Clips4Sale setup as storefronts at this point. Consider adding in another platform to share free content, like PornHub or Newgrounds. I go over the pros and cons of some popular platforms in Chapter 6 -Start Repurposing and Releasing Past Content to a New Platform
I don't mean start creating more - reuse what you already have! Schedule content to new platforms to establish your brand and posting schedule with a new audience Turn full audios into short promo clips for X. You can also make short promo clips of paid audios for PornHub and direct your audience to find the purchase link through your website!
- Optional: Offering Custom Commissions (Read More About Commissions in Chapter 7)
I’ve based my pricing for custom content by considering industry standard pricing with resources like the Global Voice Acting Academy Rate Guide. Now you have to remember, while you are presenting yourself as a professional Voice Actor, you are still new to the industry, so you cant expect to be paid the same as the pros but we still need to value your work at a fair rate.
While erotic content often operates outside traditional VO, I still believe in valuing my time, vocal health, and creative labor appropriately. When selling custom commissions this is the pricing structure I follow; (Some do it by minute, I like to do it by work count) The prices are for a complete audio with SFX
Short - Up to 400 words (1–5 min) $100
Medium - 500–900 words (5–10 min) $180
Standard - 1000–1300 words (10–15 min) $260
Extended - 1400–1800 words (15–20 min) $375
Max Length - 1900–2300 words (20–25 min) $450
The listener is to provide the script for me.
Its up to you to decide if you will want to have the client provide a script, or write one yourself. Some creators just need an idea and can improv (wish it was me, I take after Ron Burgundy). I will often connect my clients with a scriptwriter I trust (yay for supporting other artists when you can!) I like to get the listeners to hire my writer for a script so that my content sounds consistent with my brand. How you decide to come up with your scripts and if you will charge extra for writing services or improv is completely up to you
(Oh, in my prices listed above, the tax is included for the customer and I deduct it after they send payment and put the tax aside - Dont forget the tax stuff! Review Chapter 9) Again; You do not need to price your content the same as mine; I consider my rates to be on the higher side since I have over a decade of experience in the audio industry. This is just to give you an idea and a base to start. You may lower or raise your price as you see fit; just dont undervalue yourself! At this price point I dont get a lot of commissions, maybe 1 or 2 a month - but I also dont have time to accept more than that, so it works for me What Kind of Achievements Should You Aim For In This Last Stage: ✅ You’ve uploaded your existing catalog to at least four major platforms and are posting to them consistently on the schedule you've personally come up with (e.g., ManyVids + Clips4Sale + GoneWildAudio on Reddit + PornHub) You’ve added at least one new free-traffic platform and are posting regularly there
✅You have 100 paid audios for sale across your storefronts and 100 free audios to do the marketing heavy lifting for you. Congratulations on making 200 audios, you content beast!
- This is your golden library milestone; 100 products is when the “passive income” feeling starts to kicks in - Your free catalog should always be at least as big as, if not bigger than, your paid one. This is your marketing engine. ✅You’ve hit $500 in total audio sales in a single month
The proof is in the pudding! Strangers will consistently pay for your voice! ✅Keep releasing content until you’ve hit $1,000 in total audio sales in a single month
✅ At 150 paid audios released, run your first content sale!! (I do this to celebrate my birth month and discount audios on ManyVids to 20% off!) You wake up to sales notifications on days you didn’t post anything new! This is the beautiful moment when the back catalog finally starts working harder than you do! ✅ Have content scheduled out months in advance so that you can take an entire week off posting and no one will notice, not even your bank account. This is a true freedom checkpoint.
Go At Your Own Pace
This timeline is a guide, not a pressure cooker. Some people move faster, others go slower. What matters is that you're creating, learning and growing while being consistent. You’re not just a voice actor - you are a creative entrepreneur. Every audio you release is a stepping stone toward long-term success
